Which Launch Monitor Suits Your Space?
There's no single best golf launch monitor, only the best one for your room, budget and software. Start with where the unit sits, because placement decides how much space you need and how your bay gets laid out.
Measure first with our golf simulator room size guide, then match your room to one of these three setups.
Sits behind the hitter and tracks the ball's flight. Usually portable and great value, but it needs extra depth, typically around 2.5m behind the ball, so it suits longer garages and rooms.
Sits beside the ball and reads it up close at impact. Needs the least depth of the three, which makes it the easiest fit for most home garages and spare rooms.
Mounts on the ceiling, keeps the floor clear and stays out of the way of mishits. Ideal for dedicated sim rooms, but check the unit's required mounting height against your ceiling first.
Camera vs Radar Launch Monitors
Launch monitors read your shots in one of three ways. The technology affects accuracy, how much room you need and whether you can take the unit outdoors.
High-speed cameras capture the ball and club at impact. Very accurate indoors and needs little ball flight, which makes camera units the go-to for compact home sims.
Tracks the ball's flight after impact. Excellent outdoors and on the range, but it wants more room to see the ball fly, so it suits deeper spaces.
Combines a camera with radar for a bit of both. Hybrids are popular at entry and mid-range prices because they work well indoors and out.

Solid ball data with basic to moderate club data. Usually portable, often rear mounted, and many work indoors and on the range. A great first launch monitor for a home sim.
The sweet spot for most home simulators. Expect proper club data, stronger accuracy and side-on camera tracking that fits a typical garage, often with no mandatory subscription.
Tour-level accuracy, the richest club data and permanent overhead options for dedicated sim rooms. Built for serious practice, coaching and shared bays.
Simulator Software and Subscriptions
The sticker price isn't the whole story. Before you buy, check which golf simulator software the unit plays and whether full features sit behind a membership.
Most modern launch monitors play GSPro, E6 Connect or both, and some offer a direct integration with extra features. Check each product page for the platforms it supports.
Some units give you full use with no ongoing membership. You pay once and every feature is yours, which keeps your total cost down.
Others unlock full simulator play, club data or course access through a membership. Factor the ongoing cost into your budget before you buy.

Golf Launch Monitor FAQs
Which launch monitor is best for a garage golf simulator?
For most garages, a side-on camera unit is the easiest fit because it needs far less depth than a rear mounted radar. If you have the ceiling height and want a clear floor, an overhead unit is worth a look. Measure the clear height under your garage door track, not just to the ceiling.
Can left and right handed golfers share a launch monitor?
Yes. Side-on units generally need to be moved to the other side of the ball when a left hander steps in. Overhead units stay put and cover both sides, which makes them the easiest option for shared bays.
Do I need special golf balls?
It depends on the unit. Some launch monitors need their own marked or calibrated balls for full spin data, while many camera units read any ball with no stickers required. Each product page lists what's needed.
Can I use my launch monitor outdoors?
Many portable units work indoors and outdoors, so you can take them to the range. Some camera units are indoor only, and overhead units are permanently mounted for sim rooms. Check the product page before you buy if range use matters to you.
Can I buy a launch monitor as part of a package?
Yes. Our golf simulator packages bundle a launch monitor with a RooBox enclosure and projector. Already own a launch monitor? Our BYO launch monitor packages give you everything else.
