Hitting Mats

Every golf simulator needs a mat, and it takes every shot you hit. Our range includes the RooStrike, our own hitting mat with a replaceable 75 x 30cm insert, plus trusted Country Club International mats and turf roll for covering your whole bay.

Which Golf Hitting Mat Is Right for You?

Your hitting mat is the one part of your sim you touch on every shot. The right choice comes down to how often you hit, what you practise and what launch monitor you're running.

Here's the short version. For the full breakdown of turf, foam and base materials, read our guide on how to choose the right golf simulator hitting mat.

FREQUENT PRACTICE

The RooStrike. Heavy, stable and built around a replaceable insert, so it suits daily use and launch monitor setups.

SOFTER, REALISTIC STRIKE

The CCI 3D Hitting Mat. A fibre shock layer gives a more forgiving, fairway-like feel for long sessions.

ON A BUDGET

The CCI 2D Hitting Mat. Dependable everyday practice that leaves more budget for your launch monitor.

DRIVER OFF A REAL TEE

The CCI Tee Turf, Premium Tee Turf or the RooStrike Tee Box Insert.

COACHING + TRAINING

The CCI 3D Swing Trainer, with alignment and ball position guides built into the surface.

PRACTISING FROM THE ROUGH

The CCI Greenlush 3D. Longer pile turf adds resistance through impact, ideal as a second surface.

WALL TO WALL FLOORING

The CCI Tee-Line Turf Roll. Commercial grade 35mm nylon for a fully floored sim room.

What Makes a Good Golf Simulator Mat

Every hitting mat is a stack of layers: turf on top, cushioning in the middle and a base underneath. A cheap, firm mat jars your joints, lets fat shots bounce off and feel better than they should, and wears through in the one spot you hit from. These are the four things worth checking before you buy.

TURF FIBRE

Nylon springs back after every strike and outlasts polypropylene, which flattens faster in the hitting zone. For daily use, nylon is worth it.

CUSHIONING

EVA foam is light and affordable. NBR rubber foam recovers better under heavy use. Thickness and density matter as much as the material.

A BASE THAT STAYS PUT

A rubber base grips the floor so the mat doesn't creep. That keeps the ball in the same spot for camera based launch monitors.

REPLACEABLE HITTING ZONE

The hitting spot wears many times faster than the stance area. A replaceable insert means you swap the worn part, not the whole mat.

The RooStrike: A Hitting Mat With a Replaceable Insert

The RooStrike is our own golf simulator hitting mat. It pairs 15mm curly nylon stance turf and 20mm of EVA cushioning with a 3mm non-slip rubber base, and at 21kg it stays planted through every swing.

The centrepiece is a large 75 x 30cm interchangeable hitting insert. When it wears, you replace the insert, not the mat, and the oversized zone lets you move your ball position around to spread the wear. Every RooStrike ships with the Standard insert fitted. Read the full RooStrike breakdown or shop the RooStrike.

STANDARD INSERT

Included with every RooStrike and fitted from day one, so you can start hitting straight away.

FAIRWAY INSERT (3D)

Curled turf over a shock fibre system and NBR foam for a softer, more fairway-like strike.

TEE BOX INSERT

30mm tee-up turf that takes a real golf tee, so you can swap between irons and driver on one mat.

Setting Up Your Hitting Mat in a Golf Simulator

Where your mat sits matters as much as which mat you buy. Get the distance and surrounds right and your sim will feel safer, look cleaner and read your shots more reliably.

3M FROM THE SCREEN

Around 3m from ball to screen is ideal for most home setups, with 2.5m the practical minimum. Our ball to screen distance guide explains why.

CHECK YOUR ROOM FIRST

Your mat position sets where you swing, so check your ceiling height and side clearance with our room size guide before you lock it in.

FOAM WEDGES

Recommended to protect against thin shots, roll the ball back to you and create a clean slope from the screen to the turf.

RECESS YOUR INSERT

Running turf wall to wall? You can recess a RooStrike insert into the floor so it sits flush, giving a seamless look with a hitting zone you can swap in seconds.

Complete Your Golf Simulator

A mat is something to hit off. To turn it into a working sim you also need something to hit into, something to read the ball, something to run the software and something to show the picture. Not sure where to start? Our guide on what you actually need for a golf simulator covers it, or build your own simulator step by step.

ENCLOSURES

LAUNCH MONITORS

Pick your room first, then your monitor. Shop golf launch monitors or read our launch monitor buyer's guide.

PROJECTORS

Short throw is key in a home sim. Shop golf simulator projectors.

Golf Hitting Mat FAQs

Which hitting mat is best with a launch monitor?

Go for a heavy mat with a rubber base. Lightweight mats slowly creep across the floor, which shifts the ball relative to your launch monitor, and that matters most for camera based units. The RooStrike weighs 21kg and sits on a non-slip rubber base, so it holds its position session after session.

What's the difference between the RooStrike and the Country Club International mats?

The RooStrike is a 1.5m x 1.2m mat built around a replaceable hitting insert, so you can change the surface or replace the worn section without buying a new mat. The Country Club International mats are one piece 1.5m x 1.5m mats, with options for a softer 3D strike, tee-up turf, training markings and rough-style turf.

Can left and right handed golfers share one mat?

On most mats, yes. A 1.5m wide mat gives both players room for a proper stance on firm, level footing either side of the ball.

Can I replace just the hitting area when it wears out?

With the RooStrike, yes. The 75 x 30cm hitting insert lifts out and a new one drops in, so you keep the same stance mat for years. One piece mats need replacing as a whole once the hitting spot is gone.

Can I hit driver off a real tee?

Yes, on a tee-up surface. The CCI Tee Turf and Premium Tee Turf mats, the Tee-Line Turf Roll and the RooStrike Tee Box Insert all take real tees.

Does a golf simulator enclosure come with a hitting mat?

No. The RooBox enclosure does not include a hitting mat, so make sure you add one to your order.
