Golf Simulator PC Guide: What Computer Do You Actually Need?
Most golfers building a simulator spend weeks comparing launch monitors, projectors, screens and mats. Yet one component often decides whether the whole thing feels smooth and immersive or laggy and frustrating: the computer running it.
Whether you're running GSPro, E6 CONNECT, Creative Golf or something else, this guide explains when you actually need a golf simulator PC, which parts matter most, and how to match a system to your software and projector.
Quick answer:
- You don't always need a PC. Many launch monitors run their own phone or iPad apps, which is plenty for practice and casual rounds.
- You do need one for GSPro and other software, the best visuals, 4K projection and the widest software choice.
- The graphics card matters most. Match it to your projector: RTX 5060 class for 1080p, RTX 5070 and up for 4K.
- Check your launch monitor's CPU needs. Some systems, including Trackman and GolfIn, require an Intel processor.
- Our builds: SimCore HD from $1,749, SimPro 4K from $2,899, SimElite 4K Insane from $3,999.

Do you actually need a gaming PC?
Not every golf simulator needs a dedicated PC. Many launch monitors come with tablet or phone software that gives a genuinely good experience without a computer. Examples include Garmin's Home Tee Hero, E6 CONNECT and Awesome Golf on iPad, and the apps that come with the Rapsodo MLM2PRO and SkyTrak units.
A tablet or iPad may be enough if:
- You want the simplest possible setup
- You're mostly practising rather than playing full rounds
- You don't need the best graphics
You'll want a gaming PC if:
- You want to run GSPro or other simulator software, which is PC only
- You're projecting onto an impact screen and want it to look great
- You want 4K visuals
- You plan to add swing cameras or extra displays
- You want the widest choice of software
Put simply, the launch monitor captures the shot, but the PC turns that data into a realistic golf course. Our guide to what you need for a golf simulator covers where the PC fits in the wider build.
The three biggest factors in simulator performance
1. Your software. Platforms put very different loads on hardware. GSPro produces some of the most realistic visuals available, so it rewards a strong graphics card. E6 CONNECT and Creative Golf tend to be more forgiving while still looking great. Start by knowing which software you'll use most.
2. Your projector resolution. Your projector and PC need to match. On a 1080p projector, you won't see the benefit of a premium 4K graphics card. On a 4K projector, you need a PC with enough power to drive it properly, otherwise a 4K setup can look worse than a well tuned HD one. Our 4K vs HD projector guide goes into this in detail.
3. Your plans for the next few years. Many golfers start simple and later add swing cameras, a higher resolution projector, extra displays or more demanding software. A bit more headroom now can extend the life of the whole setup.
Golf simulator PC components, explained simply
Graphics card (GPU). If one part matters most for golf simulation, it's this. The GPU draws everything you see: courses, trees, water, ball flight, shadows and lighting. Video memory (VRAM) matters too, especially at 4K, where 12GB or more gives comfortable headroom.
Processor (CPU). The brain of the system. It runs the software and keeps everything talking to each other. It's rarely the bottleneck for golf sims, but there's one catch worth knowing: some launch monitor platforms, including Trackman and GolfIn, require an Intel CPU. That's why our builds come with both AMD and Intel options. Always check your launch monitor's requirements before you buy a PC.
Memory (RAM). 16GB is plenty for most home setups. 32GB gives more headroom if you're running sim software, swing cameras and other apps at the same time.
Storage. A fast NVMe SSD means quicker boot times, faster course loading and a system that feels snappy. 1TB leaves plenty of room for course libraries.

SimCore Golf Simulator Gaming PC - HD. Built for golfers who want reliable simulator performance without paying for hardware they won't use. With an RTX 5060, it comfortably handles GSPro at 1080p, E6 CONNECT and Creative Golf. If you're running a Full HD projector, it's hard to beat for value.
SimPro Golf Simulator Gaming PC - 4K. The sweet spot for serious home sims. The RTX 5070 with 12GB of VRAM, DDR5 memory and liquid cooling is built for 4K projectors and GSPro on high settings. Once you've seen GSPro properly in 4K, it's very hard to go back.
SimElite Golf Simulator Gaming PC - 4K Insane. Our flagship, with a choice of RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5080, 32GB of DDR5 and a Ryzen 7 7800X3D or Intel Core Ultra 7. It's for ultra settings, premium 4K projectors, multi display setups and commercial bays that run all day. Because if your swing can't be tour level, your simulator certainly can.
Don't forget the bits around the PC
A few small things make a big difference to how the finished setup works:
- A proper HDMI run to the projector. Projectors are often mounted several metres from the PC. For 4K, use a cable rated for 4K at the length you need, as cheap long cables are a common cause of flickering or dropouts.
- A monitor or touchscreen at the hitting bay makes it much easier to navigate menus without walking back to a desk.
- A wireless keyboard and mouse for quick control from the hitting area.
We stock cables, adapters, docks, monitors and touchscreens in the Golf Sim PCs and Tech range so you can put the whole station together in one go.
Common golf simulator PC mistakes
- Buying a generic gaming PC. Raw performance matters, but so do connectivity, reliability and compatibility with your launch monitor and software.
- Ignoring your launch monitor's CPU requirement. If your system needs Intel, an AMD PC won't cut it, however fast it is.
- Mismatching PC and projector. A premium GPU on a budget 1080p projector is money you won't see on screen. A 4K projector on a weak GPU looks worse than good HD.
- Buying only for today. Sim software keeps evolving. A little headroom saves an early upgrade.
- Fixating on the CPU. For golf sims, the graphics card usually matters most.
Final thoughts
The best golf simulator PC isn't necessarily the most expensive one. It's the one that matches your software, your projector and your launch monitor's requirements, with a bit of room to grow.
Whether you're running a simple Full HD practice setup or a 4K GSPro room, we've taken the guesswork out with purpose built golf simulator PCs. Not sure which one fits? Request a call and tell us your launch monitor, projector and software.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a gaming PC for a golf simulator?
Not always. Many launch monitors run phone or iPad apps that are fine for practice and casual rounds. You need a PC for GSPro, high quality projected visuals, 4K and the widest software choice.
What graphics card do I need for GSPro?
For 1080p, an RTX 5060 class card handles GSPro well. For 4K, step up to an RTX 5070 or higher with at least 12GB of VRAM, and to an RTX 5070 Ti or 5080 for ultra settings.
Should I get an AMD or Intel golf simulator PC?
For most setups either works well. The exception is launch monitors that require Intel, such as Trackman and GolfIn, so check your system's requirements first.
How much RAM does a golf simulator PC need?
16GB is plenty for most home setups. 32GB is worth it if you run swing cameras and other programs alongside your simulator software.
Can a 4K projector run on any PC?
It will display, but a PC without enough graphics power will struggle to run golf software smoothly at 4K. A mismatched 4K setup can look worse than a well matched HD one.
Do your golf simulator PCs come with a warranty?
Yes. Our SimCore, SimPro and SimElite builds all include a 3 year warranty.
