Confessions of three hackers: Why we Built a Sim at Home.

Confessions of three hackers: Why we Built a Sim at Home.

Alright, let’s get one thing straight.

We are not good at golf.

There. We said it.

We top the ball. We slice it. We chunk chips so badly we’ve left craters on public courses that wouldn’t look out of place at a construction site. This one hurts, but we consistently four-putt from five feet, with one of us even hitting themself with their own ricochet off a tree.

But here’s the thing: We love golf.

Not in a casual Sunday-hit kind of way. We love it in the “watch YouTube swing breakdowns at 1 a.m.” kind of way. In the “replay every bad shot of the day while brushing our teeth” kind of way.

So early in 2025, after another round of double bogeys, lost balls, and almost club throws we sat down over some food to fix our problems, realising this might be something everyone wanted to solve.

We built a home golf simulator.

Why? Because We Got Sick of Sucking While Paying Expensive Green Fees

Look, the range is great. But let’s be honest, hitting off crusty mats that mark your clubs next to a guy who’s definitely outhitting you every shot doesn’t exactly inspire growth.

We wanted reps. Consistent feedback. A space where we could miss wildly without the judgemental groans of strangers. After looking at the available options in Australia we thought that the price was bonkers.

The golf simulator became a project and eventually a sanctuary. A swing lab. A safe zone for hackers.

Our Game Didn't Transform Overnight, But the Confidence Did

After months of testing, we aren’t going to sell you a fantasy here. We didn’t suddenly become scratch golfers. But we did start seeing patterns. Better shots, more consistent shots and more accessible practice.

We stopped guessing what went wrong and started fixing things. We realised we could practice a specific shot a hundred times if we wanted. We could squeeze in 30 minutes before work or knock out 9 holes at night.

And when we went back to the course? There was a trend of better scores, as one of us said after 3 months of our demo sim installed “I’m not scared of my driver anymore.”

It’s Not Just About Lower Scores

Sure, we wanted to improve—but what we didn’t expect was how much we would enjoy the process.

Golf became fun again. We could play a few holes after dinner. Invite friends over for simulator scrambles. Turn it into movie night on the big screen.

It went from “our setup” to “our favourite room in the house.”

It was through testing we realised this was something that could be accessible to everyone at a decent price, with good quality equipment.

Final Thoughts from Three Committed Hackers

We aren’t here to say a home simulator will fix your slice or cure your yips. What we will say is this:

If you love the game—even if you’re bad at it—and want a way to enjoy it more often, more comfortably, and with less embarrassment, then this is the move.

No dress codes. No tee times. No waiting behind a slow four-ball. Just you, the sim, and a shot at not being terrible.

And for any golfer, that’s the dream.
